This is so well written and really conveys the love, learning and camaraderie shared by you and the others at the sewing retreat. I can totally see how IG would feel flat after this. I have only rarely (once?) met someone I became friends with through sewing and that felt like such a three dimensional experience as compared to simply knowing them on IG. But one makes the most of what one has and I am grateful to have found you through your sewing and Ruth too (she is a delight!) Here is to more meeting, and greater connections--offline, and online (when the former option is simply unavailable).
Absolutely, I think IG still has its place in the sewing community, and it can certainly still lead to meaningful connections. I'm so glad it's connected us! ❤️
I hope to do more teaching in the future! I'm working on a couple of option for how to offer more workshops, and hopefully I will have something concrete to announce soon. 😊
I was so excited to read this! I work in Belfast at Fiddlehead Artisan Supply and was there the day you guys came through. Did you go on that field trip? Such a lovely group, I only wish I could attend a retreat! It sounds wonderful.
Ah, I wish I had gone on the Fiddlehead field trip! I decided to steal a few moments down by the lake instead of going into town, but then immediately regretted it when I saw all of the lovely things that folks had purchased at the shop. Hopefully I'll get another chance to swing through next year!
Stacey, this is so moving and encapsulates the feeling of attending this retreat so well. I am honored to be your teaching assistant, friend and sister. I learn so much from you and with you. xoxo
I absolutely CRAVE this kind of connection!! How amazing. This is a bucket list retreat for sure. Keep us updated on your teaching, I know I'm not the only one who wants to try to join in the future!!
(But I also love your mentioning of studio dates with Candace - I want that for myself so badly. trying to figure out how to find sewing friends in my town of 200, brb :) )
That's so cool! I've seen a number of folks start sewing clubs in recent years, and it seems like a great way to build community, share knowledge, and meet some lovely humans. I hope it's a smashing success!
Love everything about this post, Stacey!! 🥰 It was so fun to meet you - only wish we’d had an extra day to chill and chat as teachers!! Hope we get a chance to meet again next time I’m in Seattle😊
Totally agree! I would have absolutely loved an extra day to hang out and chat more. ❤️ Crossing my fingers that our paths cross again soon, definitely lmk the next time you’re in the PNW!

This sounds amazing! Will you be teaching other workshops? As others have said, I would love to attend one some day.

I hope to join you there in the future!
Yay! Looking forward to meeting you there!
I absolutely relate to what you said, sewing with other people is the best!
Just because of that, right now I am trying to set up a sewing club just to be able to sew, meet, share with other sewist. 🤞🏽🤞🏽
Thanks for sharing and keep going!!

We talked about pants for hours! Actually not too different from the convo when you and I met up a while back. 😆
I want to come to the next retreat!
Hope to see you there! 😊
I love your writing and am inspired by your thoughtful joy in sewing and community. Thank you!
