I’m Stacey, aka The Crooked Hem. I am a scientist, a sewist, and a teacher. My creative practice usually blends all three.

The Crooked Hem is a persona born from a life-long sewing practice. When I was 10, my mother taught me to sew my own clothes, but I had little patience for the details. I’d rush through projects so I could proudly wear my new outfit to school the next day, all fraying seams and crooked hems. Later in life, I returned to sewing as an adult, this time much more interested in the process of building skills and minding the details. I write in-depth about my sewing projects here.

This space will be for sharing the rhythms of my studio: reflections on sewing, quilting, painting, drawing, and anything else that brings me joy. I’m happy you’ve joined me here in this little corner of the internet. Welcome!
